OKC
Parliamentary Unit to host “Meetings Can
Be Fun!”
Meetings don’t need to be “dull and boring.”
Oklahoma City,
OK – February 12, 2008 -- The Oklahoma City Unit of the National Association
of Parliamentarians will present a basic parliamentary workshop entitled
“Meetings Can Be Fun!” March 1, 2008 from 9 AM to 12 PM in Liberal Arts
building room 225 at the University of Central Oklahoma. The cost is $25 per
individual, if registered before February 26, 2008, or $35 thereafter.
Attendance is limited to the first 60 registrants.
Attendees will
receive tips on preparing for a meeting, creating and following agendas,
making motions, and using boards and committees effectively. “People
actually can enjoy meetings, if they understand the rules” says registered
parliamentarian Mildred Keso, of Edmond, OK. “They feel like they have
contributed to the decision-making process and have had their input
considered.” Keso continues, “All it takes is a little education and some
basic preparation before a meeting to really make it enjoyable!” W. Craig
Henry, a certified and professional registered parliamentarian from Oklahoma
City, agrees. “It is not difficult to learn and apply a few
simple principles to keep a meeting from becoming dull and boring. In fact,
the worst thing that you could do, is to try to accomplish too much in a
meeting—when a small committee could be more effective.” For registration

Parliamentary Procedure is based on the
consideration of the rights of the majority, the rights of
the minority (especially a large minority which is greater than one-third),
the rights of individual members, the rights of absentee members,
and the rights of all of these groups taken together.
